Patriots Hunter Henry on brink of career record in Week 2 matchup vs. Seahawks
The Patriots' offensive game plan in Week 1 against the Bengals was clearly to focus on the run game and utilize Rhamondre Stevenson in every capacity possible. This was the least shocking part of the matchup, considering offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt had made it well-known they would be a run-first offense.
It led to the running back recording just the fourth 100+ yard game of his career, and the assumption was that he would replicate that again this week against the Seahawks.
That has yet to be the case, and instead, the passing game is trying to become more used in their game plan against Seattle. So far, rookie Ja'Lynn Polk added the first touchdown of the game on a five-yard pass from Jacoby Brissett.
Other than that moment, the only other productive receiver has been tight end Hunter Henry, who currently leads the entire offense heading into halftime. To make his day even better, he's on the brink of setting a career record with his performance, as he has already recorded seven receptions for 98 yards. He has only hit 100 yards once in his career, and there are two-quarters of football left to play today.
Henry has become an integral part of the Patriots offense since signing with the team during the free agency spending spree in 2021, putting together the best season of his career that year.
The expectation has been that he will get back to his usual self this season with the help of new teammate Austin Hooper. The last two years have been a huge whiff for Bill Belichick in adding another tight end to help Henry out. The Jonnu Smith and Mike Gesicki experiments didn't work, so the hope is that Hooper can turn that around.
