Patriots finally get revenge over Giants after Drake Maye's Hard Knocks cameo
The new season of Hard Knocks debuted on Tuesday night, much to the delight of Giants fans, as the show will center around the New York team this offseason. Typically, that wouldn't concern Patriots fans whatsoever, but an unexpected appearance by rookie quarterback Drake Maye took off on social media, and for good reason.
The new season began by documenting the Giants' offseason heading into the draft, filming some of their meetings with players they were interested in selecting.
Given their bad luck with quarterbacks since the retirement of Eli Manning, their interviews with Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye were featured on Tuesday's episode, which got the internet buzzing in drastically different ways.
Fortunately for the Patriots, Maye's interview couldn't have gone any better. The clip was uploaded to Twitter by several users, mainly because it was clear head coach Brian Daboll was impressed with how quickly the quarterback picked up on the team's play calling and eagerness to learn.
The reaction from Giants fans, however, was not quite the same.
Giants fans are not happy after seeing Drake Maye ace his pre-draft interview
Although most Giants fans are excited to watch the behind-the-scenes footage of what their team has been up to this offseason, seeing how well their meeting with Maye went wasn't on their wish list, mainly because the team attempted to trade up to draft the quarterback.
That had been the rumor since the NFL Combine in February, but it was confirmed in the first episode as GM Joe Schoen was shown talking to the Patriots about their interest in trading with them for the third overall pick.
Based on their interaction with Maye and their unsettled feelings about current starter Daniel Jones, it makes all the sense in the world they had their eyes on the former UNC quarterback.
All of this has made Giants fans squirm, which some Patriots fans are enjoying perhaps a bit too much. But considering how long it's been since they have wanted to seek revenge for Super Bowls 42 and 46, Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf not trading with New York for Maye might be the long-awaited payback they have sought for the last 12 years.
It will be the sweetest of all if Maye becomes the franchise quarterback many expect him to be and who Daboll seemed to believe he could be.
