Patriots can wreak havoc over the Bills for years by making this trade

With the Brandon Aiyuk saga continuing into the start of training camp and the Patriots still in the mix to trade for him, many questions linger about what might happen as the regular season nears.

Other than making a solid offer to acquire the receiver during the draft earlier this year, the Patriots were also in contact with the 49ers just a few weeks ago, further proving their desire to weaponize the offense, as Eliot Wolf previously stated.

But when it comes to adding Aiyuk to their roster, they aren't the only team hoping to accomplish that before the season begins.

Among the alleged five teams in contact with San Francisco about a trade, the Commanders and Steelers were two others on top of the Patriots. Neither is necessarily direct competition to the Patriots, but Washington has been connected to Aiyuk throughout the offseason as well, with him making it very obvious he'd like to reunite with former teammate Jayden Daniels.

They have the cap space to add a player of his caliber, with over $37 million remaining as training camp starts. But another team might be interested in getting a deal done after trading their star receiver this offseason, a team that should prompt the Patriots to push even harder to get a deal done.

The Bills' possible interest in Brandon Aiyuk should force the Patriots to push harder for a trade

After the honeymoon had been long over between the Bills and Stefon Diggs, the receiver was traded to the Texans in free agency this year, leaving Josh Allen with no security blanket on offense. The quarterback's career jumped off without a hitch once Diggs arrived in 2020, propelling Allen to the top of the league.

Because they're still in their championship window, with head coach Sean McDermott's job as the team's head coach at risk this season, trading for another top-name receiver like Aiyuk would make a lot of sense. The problem is, they don't have the money to afford him.

With just over $10 million remaining in cap space this offseason, it would take a lot of manipulation for the Bills to pull off this blockbuster trade. But because it's entirely possible, it should fuel the Patriots even more to get a deal done, as Aiyuk becoming a member of their biggest AFC East rival's team is not a favorable situation.

The Patriots have the means to pay Aiyuk now and later, with a young quarterback expected to become the face of the franchise for years to come and a significant need for a player like Aiyuk to put their offense over the top.

It might not be the most desirable place for him to land, but if money is what he's after, New England can give it to him.

It won't be easy to get a trade done, though, with the Niners continuing to drag their feet regarding the possibility of Aiyuk refusing to play for them in 2024. However, because the Patriots have already expressed their interest multiple times, they should be near the top of the list.

And then there's the bonus of ensuring the Bills don't get him, which would make it all the more sweeter if Aiyuk becomes a Patriot. It's about time the Patriots have a feared offense again, and adding Aiyuk would ensure that immediately.
