Patriots-Bill Belichick set to part ways after legendary career
By Drew Koch
It's the end of an era in New England. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are expected to part ways. This will end a 24-year run for Belichick, who reportedly still wants to continue coaching in the NFL.
It's been a tumultuous few years for the Patriots' head coach, and it all came to head this past season when New England finished in the AFC East basement with a record of 4-13. The Pats haven't won the division since 2019 and have only been to the postseason once since future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Belichick and the Pats would be parting ways. Schefter is also reporting that Belichick and owner Robert Kraft will hold a press conference at noon ET today.

While Belichick may be leaving the Patriots, it may not end his run in the National Football League. Belichick will certainly draw some interest from at least one, if not all of the seven teams with a vacancy. The Seattle Seahawks and Pete Carroll parted ways just last night.
Adam Schefter suggested that perhaps the Atlanta Falcons, who fired head coach Arthur Smith this past week, could be a possible landing spot for Belichick. The Los Angeles Chargers are another potential destination.
As for who takes over in New England, current linebackers coach Jerod Mayo would probably be the top in-house candidate. Recently fired Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is also likely to draw consideration.
Regardless of whether or not he continues coaching, Belichick will be known as the greatest head coach of his generation, and perhaps all-time. He leaves New England with nine Super Bowl appearances, six Super Bowl Championships, 266 wins, and 30 wins in the postseason as the head man for the Patriots. Currently, Belichick is just 15 wins behind Hall of Fame coach Don Shula.
