Pats add more offense late in the 3rd and 4th rounds

Later in the third round, the Patriots use the pick receiver acquired from Atlanta in the Matt Judon trade to continue stockpiling offensive talent. At pick No. 84, they reinforce the offensive tackle position and select Josh Simmons, a massive tackle from The Ohio State University.

The 6'5", 310-pound tackle can play both the left and right side. nfldraftbuzz.com notes this about the big Buckeye tackle,

"Simmons projects as a high-upside offensive tackle prospect with the potential to develop into a reliable NFL starter. His combination of size, strength, and experience against top-tier competition makes him an intriguing prospect for teams looking to bolster their offensive line. While he has shown improvement in reducing penalties, Simmons will need to continue refining his technique, particularly in pass protection against speed rushers and in sustaining blocks in the run game."

And, with their pick, No. 100 in the fourth round, the Pats go back to the offensive skill positions and select tight end, Mitchell Evans from Notre Dame. With an aging tight-end corps, Evans is a solid addition of a young in-line or "Y" tight end to the offense.

The 6'5", 248-pounder had 29 receptions for 422 yards and a TD for the Fighting Irish in 2023. thedraftnetwork.com comments on Evans,

"Mitchell Evans is a big-bodied tight end who can out-power and out-leverage smaller defenders inside the intermediate areas of an offense. Evans primarily aligns attached to the line of scrimmage and can quickly get out of his stance and into his route stem ...

"Evans is a natural hands-catcher who consistently hauls in passes away from his frame at a variety of depths. On free releases and in the open field, Evans can accelerate and run past less athletic linebackers on crossers, showcasing just enough acceleration to separate from defenders with average athletic profiles."

So that's it, a four-round, post-pre-season, 2025 Patriots' mock draft. It features a huge trade and the addition of seven players in the first four rounds to a team in dire need of an infusion of talent. It fills in a lot of hollows on a Patriots team projected to finish last in the AFC East again in 2024.
