With just one preseason game separating the Patriots from the start of the regular season, their issues with their offensive line are becoming more worrisome. No matter who ends up being named the starting quarterback, the lack of consistency and protection from the group doesn't bode well for offensive success during the season ahead.

It's even more of a problem if rookie Drake Maye wins the role, as throwing an inexperienced player under center without the comfort of knowing the offensive line will do the job needed to keep him upright is a bad idea.

Although it was among the most addressed issues this offseason, with free agent signings, contract extensions, and double-dips in the draft, it remains the most concerning part of the roster with just two weeks until the first game of the regular season.

Fortunately, because roster cuts are just around the corner, teams have already begun releasing players they don't intend to keep for the season ahead, creating some opportunities for the Patriots to sign the talent needed if they become available.

One player might fit that bill already, who is reportedly set to be released by the Cardinals this week.

The Patriots can add more needed depth to the offensive line by signing Dennis Daley

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that offensive lineman Dennis Daley will become a free agent soon, as he will be released from Arizona. He has 37 starts in his NFL career, and his experience at left tackle and left guard makes him a potential target for the Patriots to sign.

While he won't infinitely improve the offensive line in New England, his experience on the blind side makes him valuable for the Patriots, who have struggled to find a replacement for Trent Brown.

Their experimentation with different lineups this offseason has proven wise, but it has also pointed out their biggest weaknesses on the left side.

Because they don't appear comfortable with who they currently have, and Cole Strange is expected to miss a good portion of the season, adding a guy like Daley, who has experience at both tackle and guard, would make him a solid depth piece with starting potential.

That's significant enough for the Patriots to seriously consider signing him, especially with the quarterback competition heating up recently. The future of Maye hinges on how good the offensive line protection is, so pursuing some of the forthcoming free agents would be wise.
