Are the New York Jets even serious about winning in 2023?

The New York Jets are surely going to add another quarterback to the mix with Aaron Rodgers out for the year with a torn Achilles. The reported likely addition will make Patriots fans laugh out loud. All of a sudden, the Jets went from a legitimate Super Bowl contender to a team that may not even make the postseason in 2023.

Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles just a handful of plays into his Jets tenure, and now New York appears to be locked in on Zach Wilson as their guy... for now. I do think at some point, Wilson will play himself back to the bench and the team will surely go to another QB option. I'm sorry, but Wilson is not an NFL QB, and I don't think the Jets are going to endure another full season with him under center.

Even though you'll hear their coaching staff say that they believe in the kid, there's a reason why they sent expensive draft capital to acquire a QB who turns 40 this year. They don't believe in Zach Wilson, and they can't fool us. Well, the Jets might have zeroed in on a veteran quarterback addition, and the report is absolutely hilarious.

Justin Fried, who runs the New York Jets website here at FanSided, had this to report about the Jets' QB search:

"The NY Jets are still in the market for a quarterback following the devastating injury suffered by Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. While the team is reportedly in no rush to sign a QB, they have reached out to a few names.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported last week that the Jets have been in contact with two veteran quarterbacks, Chad Henne and Colt McCoy, about joining the team in the near future."

Honestly, this is hilarious to me. Of all the potential options for the Jets, they appear to be choosing between Chad Henne and Colt McCoy? Does NY even want to compete this year? Chad Henne has thrown 60 touchdowns against 63 interceptions during his career. He has a career passer rating of 76.1. Colt McCoy has thrown 34 touchdowns against 32 interceptions and has earned a passer rating of 79.9 over his career.

I guess they don't have interest in Carson Wentz, who has endured a couple rough seasons lately, but is clearly the best FA quarterback available. And I guess they aren't considering a QB trade, as far as we know? To me, swinging a trade for someone in the Andy Dalton tier like Teddy Bridgewater, Gardner Minshew, Jacoby Brissett, or Dalton himself just makes a ton of sense. The Jets are going to have to rely on their defense and run game regardless, but man, I can't help but laugh at their reported interest in two bad quarterbacks.
