New England Patriots saved their season in Week 3, for now
The New England Patriots got their first win of the season in 2023 with a Week 3 defeat of the lowly New York Jets. The Patriots have saved their season, for now. The difference between 0-3 and 1-2 is bigger than you think. In a game they should have won, the Patriots won a gutsy and low-scoring affair against the New York Jets.
I recently penned an article stating that I do think the Jets could make a somewhat notable QB move if they lost in Week 3, so I think that is something to watch out for. Zach Wilson was once again embarrassed by the Patriots, tossing 157 yards on just 50% completion. The Jets are a woefully bad team with Wilson in the lineup, and the Patriots should be able to sweep the season series once again if Zach Wilson is starting.
Anyway, the Patriots improved to 1-2 on the season. Through three games, the Pats are hanging on to life. Yes, I know how early it is in the season, but man, starting 0-3 would have put them in a very dangerous spot. Right now, the Pats are the 8th seed in the AFC playoff picture, so they're just one spot out of being in the postseason as of now.
New England does have one of the hardest schedules in the NFL this year, so each week feels like a must-win to some degree. In Week 4, they face off against the Cowboys in Dallas. They'll host the New Orleans Saints the next week and travel to Las Vegas to face off against the Raiders. Could the team go 2-1 in that stretch and get themselves to 3-3? I think that could be possible.
The team definitely still has some questions that need to be answered, and I think QB Mac Jones needs to simply play better. I'd also keep an eye out for the Jets. I just don't think anyone believes that this team is going to stick with Zach Wilson. Surely they'll look around the QB market, right?
