Patriots Rumors: 4 replacements for Mac Jones to save New England's future
By Ryan Heckman
4. Carson Wentz
This is far from the ideal solution, but Carson Wentz is still a free agent and awaiting an opportunity. The 30-year-old went from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent one season. Last year, he played for the Washington Commanders and his career has taken quite the turn to this point.
Still, Wentz has proven to be a serviceable quarterback in this league. His lone year with the Colts was far from a bad season, as he threw for 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Last season, the Commanders were a mess offensively and Wentz started seven games, going 2-5 in those games while throwing for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine picks.
At the very least, signing Wentz would give Jones a bit of fire lit underneath him. If Zappe isn't the answer either, then the Patriots should look to signing a veteran, and Wentz may very well be the best available option.
Other free agents include: Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco and Nick Foles.
