The further along we get in the 2023 season, the more and more we are going to continue down the lines of a quarterback controversy. The New England Patriots definitely have one, whether they want to admit it or not.

Mac Jones isn't cutting it. The fans know it. The coaching staff knows it. You better believe Bill Belichick knows it, whether or not he admits it. There is a quarterback conundrum in New England.

Going into the 2024 offseason in a couple of months, the Patriots could have a plethora of options to hold up against Jones. Let's take a look at some of the realistic ones, via the draft, free agency and currently on the roster, and try to decide if they're the better fit than Jones.

1. Bailey Zappe

This is not an option anyone really wants to see come to fruition, but Bailey Zappe is still here and he is indeed an option. At the very least, Zappe does have an inclination to get the ball further down field than Jones does on a regular basis.

Remember, Zappe came from Western Kentucky where he threw for 5,967 yards, 62 touchdowns and 11 picks in one season. He can sling the football. And, to be fair, maybe he needs a better scheme fit than the one the Patriots currently use. Let's be real, for a minute. That's exactly what the Patriots offense needs, overall.

As a backup, Zappe has been fine. But, as a starter? Is he better than Jones? If he was, one would have thought by now he'd have taken the job.

Verdict: Jones
