New England Patriots mock draft has team taking a legacy wide receiver in Round 1
A new mock draft from tanktahon.com has the New England Patriots selecting Marvin Harrison Jr in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Currently, the Pats have the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and clearly need a QB. However, this mock draft has the team missing out on both Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.
That might sound bad, but the mock draft has the Pats standing put with their top selection and taking Marvin Harrison Jr, son of Marvin Harrison, who Patriots fans should be very familiar with. After another brutal loss, the Patriots continue to climb up the draft board, and at this point, that's the best path for this team.
There's no use in trying to win these games now. The team is dreadfully bad on offense and are shaky on defense. Right now, the best course of action would be to simply throw the towel in on the season and begin to prep for the pending rebuild. Would Marvin Harrison Jr be a good pick for the Pats?
Well, besides QB being a huge issue, WR is the next biggest need for the Patriots. And if they miss out on Williams and Maye and still want to draft a QB in 2024, they may have to find a way to draft someone from that next tier of QBs which could be Michael Penix Jr, Quinn Ewers, and Bo Nix. With the Pats currently having a top-three pick, you almost have to think that they need to stay in that slot even if they miss a top QB.
Taking Harrison would give the Patriots their WR1 of the future. However, you could also argue that the team would be better off taking a left tackle like Penn State's Olu Fashanu. In my opinion, good NFL teams are built from the inside, out, so taking a stud tackle might be the move here. However, Marvin Harrison Jr seems to be one of the few "sure thing" prospects in college football.
I remember when Indianapolis Colts guard Quenton Nelson was coming out of college; he was viewed in a similar light, and Nelson is on a Hall of Fame pace at the moment. Well, Marvin Harrison Jr could be that guy for the Patriots.
