After each team's offense went three and out to start the game, the Patriots got on the board first with a nice touchdown pass from Jacoby Brissett to rookie receiver Ja'Lynn Polk. It was another game that began with New England putting up points early over their opponent, a nice change from their inability to score anything one year ago.

When it was time for Seattle's offense to get back on the field, there was confidence knowing how good the Patriots' defense has already been, as they shut down almost anything the Bengals tried to do last week.

The commentator reiterated that point, going on about how good cornerback Christian Gonzalez has been this season and all that he did to prepare for his second year after missing most of 2023 due to a season ending injury sustained in Week 3.

But that conversation seemed to completely jinx the Patriots' chances because seconds after, receiver D.K. Metcalf was going 56 yards to the house to put the Seahawks on the board.

It looked like a significant miscommunication between Gonzalez and safety Kyle Dugger, as one of them looked like they should have followed Metcalf but hesitated beforehand. It made for an easy touchdown for the impressive receiver, an unfortunate way for the first quarter to end.

Knowing that it seemed to be just a mishap between the two start defenders makes it feel a bit less worrisome for the rest of the game. Something like that doesn't often happen with those players, so it's fair to assume it won't happen again. At the very least, fingers crossed, it won't.
