After a tumultuous 2023 season in New England, there was a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Mac Jones as the Patriots' starting quarterback. He accomplished a successful rookie year under Josh McDaniels, and once the offensive coordinator left to become the Raiders head coach, Jones' production plummeted.

Whether it was a direct result of the playcalling change, which ultimately went to former longtime defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, or it was just a matter of time before the quarterback was exposed in the NFL, it took a big hit on the Patriots' success over the next two years.

It resulted in Jones being benched last season for Bailey Zappe, who didn't perform much better than his predecessor but did rack up some wins before the season ended.

It seemed clear that Jones would play elsewhere in 2024 if Bill Belichick had anything to do with it, but that changed slightly once the legendary head coach was relieved of his duties at the start of the offseason. The quarterback was seemingly given another chance by Jerod Mayo, who emphasized wishing Jones had been better positioned to succeed.

However, that didn't last long, as Jones was traded to the Jaguars in the spring, a team he grew up rooting for. The decision was collective, as Mayo told reporters that they spoke with the quarterback about where he wanted to go. Although he seems to be loving his new environment, Doug Pederson shared an interesting perspective on how things have been going since Jones arrived.

Mac Jones is already driving his new team crazy, according to Jaguars head coach

It might not be the most desirable place for Jones to continue his career since the Jaguars already have their starting quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, but since he moved back to Florida, it's clear the Alabama alum has been enjoying his new team.

It has been very noticeable to all who witness spring and summer practices, and it is even something Pederson mentioned when speaking to reporters last week. Jones is apparently having so much fun that he often annoys the coaching staff, at least according to Pederson.

"He's going to have a fun time no matter what. I think that's just his personality. He's great in the locker room, great with the guys. Sometimes he drives us crazy with some of the stuff he does or says. But it's good. I think it's really good because when he gets in there, it's business, and he's a competitor and he loves to compete."

This isn't entirely shocking to hear as Patriots fans, as it was clear during the first two years that Jones was a more positive and fun guy on and off the field. He was known for his laughter, sense of humor, and the occasional dance in celebration of a good play or touchdown, seemingly becoming the norm with the Jaguars.

Although his time in New England was not what anyone expected or hoped for, it's good to see him in better spirits with his new team. By the time the 2023 season ended, Jones looked like a completely different player and person, seemingly losing the spark that made him such a likable guy in the first place.

Now, he can at least enjoy wherever his career takes him and the current environment he is in, which appears to be what he's doing, and his team appreciates him for it, even if it does get annoying sometimes.
