ESPN's bold prediction for the Patriots 2024 season is short of surprising
Plenty of hot takes and bold predictions are being made about the Patriots' 2024 season, most of which project them to win no more than four games and finish at the bottom of the AFC East. It's gotten to the point that there really isn't anything surprising to predict unless you suggest that they'll rack up double-digit wins and compete for a playoff spot.
Now, that would be shocking.
But that's not really on anyone's radar, as most believe this will be another losing season for the rebuilding franchise. That's not stopping people from sharing what they claim to be "bold" predictions though, something that ESPN recently did and it was anything but surprising.
Maybe it was difficult for reporter Dan Graziano to come up with anything that hasn't already been said about the Patriots when writing this piece, which is understandable. However, his bold prediction revolving around the team's quarterback competition wasn't the best one to focus on, as it is possibly the least shocking projection of all.
ESPN's attempt to make a bold prediction for the Patriots' 2024 season was a failure
When looking at the Patriots' current roster and their tough road ahead for the 2024 season, there is plenty to speculate about and hot takes to make, which can't be said about Graziano's piece for ESPN recently.
Instead of trying to be controversial or daring with his take, he chose to declare who will ultimately be named the Patriots' starting quarterback, which is considered far from a ballsy take.
"Maye was the third overall pick in this year's draft and will be the starter eventually. But he's still 21 years old and was viewed by many in the pre-draft process as a raw prospect who'd need time to develop.
He has made some breathtaking throws in the offseason that remind you why he was picked where he was picked, but New England is a rebuilding team that believes it can give Maye as much time as he needs... Week 1 prediction: Brissett will start and may even start the majority of the Patriots' games in 2024 while Maye gets up to speed."
Maybe to some, this is bold, despite the coaching staff insisting all offseason that Jacoby Brissett would be the starter. It would have been more inspiring had Graziano chosen Drake Maye to overthrow the veteran for the job that would have been more unexpected.
But this could just be another example of where the Patriots are right now in their rebuilding process. They are a team that isn't that exciting or shocking and has a lot of work to do to get back to their rightful spot at the top of the league.
