The Patriots returned this week to Foxboro for more OTA practices, and plenty of players have already begun to get people talking based on their performances. At the top of the list is rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who has been impressed with his natural leadership and eagerness to learn in the month since becoming a New England Patriot.

His new teammates and coaches continue to speak highly of him as a person and a player, which has made every guy in the locker room even more excited for the season ahead. And now Maye is catching the attention of the fans and media, too.

Reporters have not been allowed to attend every practice, but when they are not there, the Patriots social media team has made sure to keep everyone updated with videos and photos from the day.

They hyped up New England fans with a new video posted by a fan to Twitter/X of Drake Maye making an impressive throw reminiscent of Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. The no-look pass has become a signature of the Chiefs quarterback, and it looks like Maye is already well-versed in the art of that throw or, at the very least, looking to add it to his repertoire.

Nobody is saying the rookie will be the next three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback. However, this isn't the first time during the Patriots' limited practice time this spring that Maye has impressed with his abilities; this is just the latest example that has reignited the lost excitement in New England for what most have deemed a less-than-thrilling 2024 season.

There are high expectations for Maye as the third overall pick and the presumed face of the franchise for the foreseeable future, but whether he will play this season remains unclear. Seeing plays like this, though, especially this early in his rookie season, is easy to jump on the "start him right away" bandwagon.

Sure, it's just one pass, but if he continues to show these types of plays, which he already has, as noted by Boston Sports Journal's Mike Giardi, his skillset looks to be one to put the Patriots offense in a better position than they have been in recent years.

It might just be OTAs, and there's no real football action happening yet, but it's still exciting to see the early wins from a young player in an important position on the team.
