Drake Maye proves to be ultimate Patriot with first comments as new quarterback
As if the Patriots picking their next franchise quarterback wasn't sweet enough, Drake Maye completely won fans over with his first comments as the newest member of the New England roster.
It didn't take long for the former UNC quarterback to sound like the ultimate Patriot, proving even more why Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf liked him so much in the pre draft process.
He spoke to Patriots media immediately after being drafted, and shared his excitement in becoming part of the team. He was asked a follow up question regarding the narrative surrounding the team since Tom Brady's departure four years ago, labeling the Patriots as the worst landing spot for a rookie quarterback.
Maye shot that down quickly, stating the contrary and what he's looking forward to most upon joining the team.
"I think they're wrong. That defense last year, held a lot of teams to low points. I'm looking forward to helping the offense."
That's certainly a great start in convincing any doubters not loving his pick that he's a great addition to the building. But he took it even further with better comments to follow.

Because he is expected to be the team's quarterback of the future, hopefully more so than Mac Jones was, Maye was asked about following in the footsteps of Tom Brady and what he thinks of the legendary quarterback.
Because of how beloved the GOAT is in New England, the new quarterback's response was crucial and hit out of the park. Not just regarding his opinion of Brady but how he will handle the pressure of being in the ever daunting shadow of the legendary player.
As for what fans should expect from him as the team's next quarterback? Maye says he is a competitor and a winner, and something he hates to do is lose.
Could this guy be any more perfect?
Since being drafted by the Patriots, Maye has clearly said all the right things, exciting New England fans beyond their initial happiness with his selection. He will need to walk the walk once he's on the field, which we have to wait a few months to see.
But things are starting nicely for the quarterback in Foxboro, and he certainly has the attitude that fans will love.
