Among the several aspects of a difficult and disappointing season that the Patriots are dealing with so far is the questioning of what might be already happening or what might be on the way inside the locker room based on how their season is progressing.

It's no secret that losing and bad performances can bring out the worst in any competitor and create a toxic locker room. We saw this from the countless reports over the last three years, which players have spoken about, and how it can severely ruin team morale. That was one reason for Jerod Mayo succeeding Bill Belichick, as he looked to fit the bill of being a player's coach and bringing the much-needed good vibes back to Foxboro.

But that newly adapted atmosphere might already be tainted.

While the addition of new catchphrases and renovations to the locker room to create a more relaxed and inviting area have been welcomed additions, the team's lack of success on the field might already be deteriorating the work they accomplished during the offseason.

It's been a concern since the Patriots lost three games in a row and players speaking out to the media about things they don't like, which might be tame compared to what is really happening behind closed doors.

That's a controversy that has taken off in recent hours after the latest episode of the Patriots 'Catch-22" podcast aired, with writer Evan Lazar stating things aren't as good as they seem to those on the outside.

Problems might be arising in the Patriots locker room over roster decisions being made

During the episode, Lazar mentioned his experience in the locker room after the Patriots' latest loss to the 49ers in Week 4. Before backtracking and trying to calm the incoming reactions to what he was about to say, he stated that the locker room was "teetering on mutiny" and things could get worse if significant changes were not made the rest of the season.

Listeners were shocked to hear from Lazar and quickly took to social media to share what he said. It took off and immediately became the topic of the hour on Patriots Twitter/X, with fans trying to find the clip to post online.

It was difficult to find, as the YouTube video was allegedly taken down, and the video on Patriots.com was removed. However, one user was able to repost the clip for all fans to hear.

The moment became even worse when the audio was allegedly reuploaded with the 'mutiny' comment edited out, prompting many to believe something fishy was happening in Foxboro.

Lazar later addressed the situation during a call with radio host Joey Murray of 98.5 The Sports Hub, claiming he got "carried away" with his comments earlier in the day.

This furthered speculation that the reporter was forced to do damage control due to revealing too much behind the scenes information to the public. Or others believe it simply made the team look bad and was exaggerating what was really going on.

No matter what, the hope, of course, is that it's not true because the last thing the Patriots need right now is a locker room that turns on each other and/or the coaching staff. They've had to deal with that far too much over the last few years, and it would be a horrible look for Jerod Mayo to have that happen just four games into his head coaching tenure.

At the same time, however, if there is any inkling of something going on in that locker room, the staff need to address it and fix the problem before it gets out of hand.
