The new league year has finally begun, and now, re-signings and trades made in recent days will become official. It also means the Patriots should hopefully get an answer soon about Calvin Ridley, who is reportedly deciding between returning to the Jaguars or signing with New England.

It has been the story over the past week, with countless rumors suggesting the receiver is feeling one way or the other. The assumption has been that he was likely staying in Jacksonville given his hesitation to sign a deal before the start of the new league year in order to help ensure the Jaguars had to send a third-rounder to Atlanta and not a second.

However, while that may still be true, the latest report suggests he's seriously considering moving up north to join the Patriots, who are said to have a better offer on the table.

Although things don't look good for them in the matter, the Patriots' better deal, which the Jaguars appear unwilling to match, might be what sways Ridley to sign with New England.

He is said to want to stay in Florida, but it might be difficult to turn down the significantly better offer if he wants to be paid.

If the Jaguars are unwilling to negotiate further, Ridley will have to decide what is more important to him, which could benefit the Patriots. It would be the first homerun of their offseason if the receiver takes them up on their offer, especially after what many fans have deemed an underwhelming start to free agency this week.

Now we have to sit and wait; fortunately, the longer the wait could be better. It would seem to indicate Jacksonville and Ridley didn't have a deal done as they had previously thought and were just waiting until the new league year to announce it.

It could mean he's more seriously considering the Patriots.
