Bill Belichick enters the podcast world with unexpected co-host
Despite his well-known disinterest in the media, Bill Belichick will become a fixture in covering the NFL this fall in his post-Patriots career ventures on television and podcasting. He will be a weekly guest on ESPN and be featured on the "Pat McAfee Show" and the "ManningCast." Plus, he is set to be a host of the CW's "Inside the NFL," on top of joining two podcasts to discuss all things football.
It was recently announced that the legendary head coach will replace Tom Brady on the "Let's Go!" podcast, a gig the quarterback has held for the last two years. The show discusses a variety of topics surrounding the NFL, which has historically included first-hand accounts of Brady's career and interactions, which will be fascinating to see continued with Belichick.
But that's not where his new podcast life ends.
He is also co-hosting another one for Underdog Fantasy this season, with the first episode dropping earlier this week. While this had been announced quite some time ago, who would be Belichick's co-host had not been previously revealed. It wasn't until a teaser clip for the first episode was posted on social media that fans finally saw who it was, and boy, is it shocking.
Bill Belichick choosing a former Patriots coach to be his co-host is surprising, but not entirely shocking
Of all the new ventures Belichick has undertaken this offseason, exploring the podcast world might have been the least predictable of all. Even more unpredictable was his decision to bring on Matt Patricia as his co-host, the longtime Patriots defensive coordinator turned offensive play-caller in a disastrous 2022 season.
Fans were caught off guard seeing the former Lions head coach appear in the clip but were quickly reminded just how knowledgeable Patricia is regarding the game of football.
It can be hard to remember a time when Patricia was well-liked by New England fans. Since his final year with the team was such a bad experience, it's easy to forget that he is a literal rocket scientist and a decorated defensive coach.
He helped lead some of the Patriots' best defenses during the two-decade dynasty and coached the team during their final three Super Bowl wins, some of which were largely due to the impressive defense performances. Maybe his later years derail those accomplishments to some, but you can't take away his contributions to the second half of the Patriots' league domination.
On top of that, it seems fair to assume that Belichick would never have someone join him on a podcast if he didn't respect their intellect and accomplishments, and this further proves that goes beyond the field for the head coach.
It will be fascinating to see these two on screen together, breaking down games and defenses throughout the 2024 season. This is exactly the type of content that fans and players want to see, and it is just another great example of why Belichick will inevitably be an excellent addition to the media, even if he was never a fan of them, to begin with.
