Now that the Patriots are beginning the trek of a new era under the watchful eye of a legendary player in Jerod Mayo, it's no surprise to see other former Patriots join his staff. We've already seen it with Dont'a Hightower becoming the new linebackers coach and Matthew Slater, fresh off of his retirement, serving as the special assistant to the head coach.

Rumors have circulated about more fan favorites, including Devin McCourty and James White, joining Mayo on the sidelines as soon as this fall. However, neither appears interested at the moment, so a reunion is not in the works for this upcoming season.

Other names have also been tossed around, most of which are likely dream scenarios for most New England fans. But a new name has teased a possible return to Foxboro in the near future, which would be a fantastic addition to Mayo's staff.

Patrick Chung has cheeky response to possible coaching future for the Patriots

During a recent appearance on "Up & Adams," retired safety Patrick Chung was asked about his plans to get into coaching, specifically for Mayo on the Patriots staff.

He stuck with the Patriots' way of answering hard-hitting questions and responded with an intriguing answer that only made you wonder more about what he might be implying.

"I plead the fifth."

When questioned further, Chung remained mum and didn't shut down the possibility of joining Mayo's staff at some point in the future.

In an attempt to get a little bit of information out of him, Adams followed up by inquiring what Chung would bring to the staff if he were to pursue a new career in coaching. Luckily, he responded with the best possible answer for Patriots fans who loved the type of player he was during his 11 year career.

“The same thing I brought when I was playing. Just a little toughness, some education for these young guys, and put them in the right spot.”

Besides the obvious joy fans would get over another favorite player joining the staff, Chung's influence over a young secondary would be an invaluable asset as the team embarks on a new era under Mayo. He was a leader during his career in New England and was one of their most consistent players on the defense, so sharing that knowledge with the next generation would be incredibly beneficial.

Based on the official announcement of the Patriots 2024 staff, it looks like we'll have to wait another season (at the very least) to see if Chung eventually makes the move to coaching.
