AFC East: Division could turn into an arms race in 2024 offseason

The New England Patriots may also fall into this category in 2024, but in a different way. I think no matter who the primary decision-maker is, we'll see this team go through a total makeover, especially on offense. There is enough on defense to justify perhaps bringing that core of players back and even re-signing guys like Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers, even though both are not young.

The defense is fine, I think. The unit hasn't been great this year, but Matthew Judon and Christian Gonzalez have missed most of the season. No defense is going to stay afloat if the unit is missing their best players, so I don't entirely fault them there. I also think if Belichick is out of the picture, the Patriots could keep the defense in a good spot with a new, veteran defensive coordinator, and perhaps a young, offensive mind at head coach.

The priority could then shift to fixing the offense, and the Pats not only have a ton of cap space in 2024 to do that, but they may also have a top-five pick. I don't think cutting corners in a rebuild ends well, but the Pats have the finances and capital to potentially rebuild this side of the ball quicker than what is deemed normal.
