Single-season individual sack record

Two things need to happen for this record to fall in 2024, either Matt Judon needs to sign a new contract or the Patriots need to trade him for a younger pass rusher.

Judon has been giving mixed signals since the end of the 2023 season, he isn’t holding out but isn’t happy. He actively recruited players to move Foxborough during free agency, but recent social media posts suggest he wants to leave

That would be unfortunate because in 2022, despite only starting 15 games Judon came within 3.5 sacks of setting a new team record.

The current record was set by Andre Tippett all the way back in 1984! The former Iowa Hawkeye defensive end recorded 18.5 in 16 games despite not registering a sack in five games that year!

Once again, if the Patriots' defense can avoid the number of serious injuries they sustained in 2023 Judon (or his replacement) could set a new record.

With Christian Barmore desperate to live up to his new contract, Keion White poised for a breakout along with new boys Oshane Ximines and Armon Watts there’s plenty of firepower up front.

Having one of the best defensive backfields in the league is going to help the pass rush get to the quarterback too. With Jonathan Jones, Christian Gonzalez, Alex Austin, Kyle Dugger, Sione Takitaki and even Marte Mapu covering receivers finding open guys will be a tough task.
