5 wide receivers Patriots can only hope fall to them in the third round

Johnny Wilson

There’s no way around it. Wilson is huge—6 foot 7 inches tall and 231 lbs. He is in the 97th percentile for weight and the 98th for height! He began his college career at Arizona State, but after two years of catching passes from Jayden Daniels, he moved to Florida State.

So, in the last four years, he’s worked with herm Edwards and Mike Norvell, two guys who know about playing wide receiver and stopping them. Throughout his college career, Wilson caught 102 passes for 1,757 receiving yards. But oddly, for such a big receiver with a huge catch radius, he only hauled in 8 touchdowns in his four seasons.

Unsurprisingly, for such an enormous human, Wilson is not particularly fast; his 4.52 second 40-yard time was only in the 44th percentile at the combine. But (obviously) he did have the biggest wingspan, which can make the quarterback’s job easier.

His 4.11-second shuttle run was in the 79th percentile though and his broad jump was in the 89th percentile (those long legs help). All of that contributed to his 9.69 (out of 10) RAS, the 99th-highest score since 1987.

Wilson is projected to be a fourth-round pick. He could fall as low as 109, but he may be taken with the 59th pick. His lack of speed means he isn’t the deep threat the others are, but the Patriots have Pop Douglas for speed. Wilson would be an interesting foil for the 5-foot-8-inch slot receiver, and any quarterback would love a red zone option that towers over any defensive back he lines up opposite.
