5 players on the Patriots' roster who won't be here in 2024
4. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR
I'm going to make a bold prediction here and say that whoever is running the show in New England next year will just cut ties with JuJu Smith-Schuster, who has been a total dud of a signing for the Patriots. The team let Jakobi Meyers leave in free agency to the Las Vegas Raiders for a very similar contract, and that could not have been more of a mistake.
Meyers has averaged 68.5 yards per game this year. JuJu Smith-Schuster has 86 total yards this year and a whopping 6.1 yards per reception. The Patriots should just eat the dead money charge and move on from this mistake. JuJu is not helping this WR room at all. In fact, he's making it worse.
5. Mac Jones, QB
I saved the most controversial one for last. Whether Mac Jones would be cut or traded is mostly irrelevant, but I don't think Jones has a spot on this team next year. He has not and will not prove himself to be the starting, franchise QB for the New England Patriots, and I think people need to stop holding onto the 2021 season.
That seems to be more of an outlier. Mac Jones might just need a fresh start somewhere, and I think this marriage between Jones and the team simply cannot continue. The Patriots might be best suited taking a QB high in the 2024 NFL Draft and signing a veteran bridge in the mold of Jacoby Brissett or Andy Dalton to raise the floor of the room.
Ideally, the Patriots can land a late-round pick for Mac Jones next offseason.
