Gabriel Murphy - UCLA
UCLA’s other bookend looks to be a disruptive pass rusher, too. Opposing offensive lines were undoubtedly more focused on Latu. But Murphy has the speed and footwork to beat blockers on the outside or the inside. He reportedly clocked a 4.72 40-yard dash, but that’s quicker than Nick Bosa, and he doesn’t seem to have much trouble getting to quarterbacks.
UCLA played usually lined up with three down linemen last season, too, so both Latu and Murphy would be at home in the Patriots base. And who better to teach them how to play linebacker in the NFL than Jerod Mayo? Gabriel has a twin brother at UCLA, too; maybe the Murphy’s could be the new McCourty’s?
Between Laiatu Latu and the Murphy twins, UCLA has the best edge room in the country heading into next season.
