The Patriots have the cards stacked against them as they head into their Week 4 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, the most recent NFC representative in the Super Bowl. Besides being 10.5-point underdogs in the days leading into the matchup, they couldn't be heading to Santa Clara at a worse point this season.

The NFC favorites have had a disappointing start to their season, fueled by countless significant injuries that have the potential to derail their plans to make it back to the championship game.

In addition to the most noteworthy names dealing with ailments, including TE George Kittle, RB Christian McCaffrey, and WR Deebo Samuel, QB Brock Purdy is reportedly monitoring a back injury he suffered in their Week 3 loss to the Rams, which could force him to miss some time if deemed serious.

Regardless, because the 49ers are sitting with a disappointing 1-2 record, the overwhelming belief is that they'll use the struggling Patriots to get back on track to their ultimate goal and take out their frustrations about a slow start on the field.

At least one player has made that clear already, which doesn't bode well for the Patriots' chances this upcoming Sunday.

49ers cornerback doesn't hide motivation for a win against the Patriots in Week 4

In response to the Rams' trolling of their win over the 49ers last week, cornerback Deommodore Lenoir responded with a petty phrase and ended it with a hashtag directed at the Patriots.

It's nothing too bad and could be considered similar to Bill Belichick's infamous "We're onto Cincinnati," but it proves even further the bad timing of the Patriots matchup with reigning NFC West champions.

This is likely representative of how Lenoir's teammates are feeling heading into the final game of the month. That added motivation could eliminate any possibility that the Patriots squeak out a win like they did against the Bengals.

The injury aspect does work in New England's favor, however, especially since their defense struggled against the Jets last week. If the 49ers are down some of their best offensive starters, or even if Purdy plays injured, it could make their day slightly easier than had their opponent's been at full strength.

Unfortunately, the Patriots offense won't have the same luxury, though. That could make the game over before it begins unless the offensive line performs far better than they did just one week ago.
