Could the New England Patriots start fresh at the quarterback position and bring in a short-term solution in 2024? Let's examine three options. There is definitely a possibility that the New England Patriots decide to start fresh at the position. This could look like trading Mac Jones to whoever would take him, starting a rookie QB and relegating Jones to a backup role, or even something else.

You never know, really. But what could be a nice situation for the team is to bring in a short-term QB option to sort of hold the fort down and bring some stability to the position while the new regime figures out the true franchise quarterback. The NFL frequently sees young QBs paired up with a veteran backup. The Carolina Panthers did it with Bryce Young and Andy Dalton. CJ Stroud and Case Keenum are in the QB room in Houston.

You get the point. The New England Patriots could try to implement this same idea with a veteran QB not named Mac Jones. Let's look at three short-term QB options for the Patriots in 2024.

1. Kirk Cousins, 2024 free agent

Kirk Cousins is slated to be a free agent in 2024 and is now on the road to recovery after a torn Achilles he suffered against the Green Bay Packers. Cousins was on pace to have the most productive season of his career, and I'm sure he would not hate returning to the Vikings for another year or two.

Well, what if a team like the Patriots made him a very nice contract offer? Would Cousins take it? Money talks, even in the NFL, and the Pats will have a ton of money to spend in 2024. Bringing in Cousins for a year or two could stabilize the position and allow a new front office some time to find a true franchise passer.
