It has been a long season so far for the New England Patriots, but a far more successful one than anyone could have predicted. They have one game left until they finally reach their bye week, and they're hoping to keep their win streak going against a beatable New York Giants team, who are simply hoping for another win at all.
There will be a lot to look out for, as both teams are dealing with injuries across the board, with the Patriots potentially having the worst hand dealt to them after an injury-plagued win against the Bengals last week. But the goal this week is clear, and former Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito could be a difference-maker in helping his new team achieve that.
Although he won't take the field during the game, his intel on how the Giants operate will be a big help on Monday night, even if they will be without head coach and former offensive play-caller Brian Daboll this time around.
Regardless, DeVito has made it clear that he's ready to help the Patriots in any way he can and echoes fans' hopes for what he'd like to see happen heading into the bye.
“I can help player breakdowns and give my two cents here and there,” DeVito said. “I’ll help in any way I can.”
Tommy DeVito is happy to be with the Patriots this season, as his former team comes to town in Week 13
After a solid few years in New York, an impressive preseason performance led Mike Vrabel and Co. to pursue DeVito when he was made available. They needed another backup for Drake Maye, and DeVito looked like the right fit.
We haven't seen him play since arriving in Foxboro just yet, but he will certainly be helping them this week against the Giants, and he hopes to see his former team get blown out in the process.
“I loved my time there. When I was there, it was, ‘Go Giants’ but now it’s ‘Go Pats’ all the way. I hope we blow them out.”
It's easy to say that Patriots fans are hoping for the same thing, with a season-best performance from Maye to make it even better.
Clearly, that won't be that easy to accomplish, now that he will be without starting left tackle Will Campbell and left guard Jared Wilson. But his familiarity with those replacing them will be crucial to how the offensive line performs moving forward, and hopefully, that will allow things to be smooth as soon as this week.
DeVito might be able to help ensure that happens with his intel, no matter how limited or extensive it might be, which is always a plus for any team. It would be a great way for the Patriots to enter their bye week as they inch closer to locking up the AFC East and potentially the No. 1 seed in the conference.
