The Patriots were supposed to enter their Week 18 matchup with the Dolphins feeling good about their playoff chances. They're coming off a dominant win over the Jets and finally winning the AFC East, thanks to the Bills losing to the Eagles on Sunday.

Instead, unfortunate news surrounding an alleged violent incident involving wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been revealed.

On Tuesday morning, it was reported by Boston 25 News that Diggs has been "charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an incident on Tuesday, Dec. 2."

His attorney appeared in court on Tuesday, as the receiver denies the serious allegations.

The Patriots released a statement on the matter, announcing they are aware of the allegations and are addressing them as information becomes available.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

His attorney also revealed that Diggs made a financial offer to the alleged victim, but nothing more has been shared regarding that.

The NFL released a statement shortly thereafter, acknowledging they're awareness of the situation.

“We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time.”

When more information becomes available, updates will be shared here.
