The New England Patriots were dealt a concerning update surrounding their seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, as rookie linebacker Quintayvious Hutchins was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and battery on a family/household member in Newton District Court, per WBZ Radio.
According to court documents, Hutchins, 23, was arraigned Wednesday morning in Newton District Court. The former Eagles star has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on personal recognizance.
It remains unclear as to what the details of the case are at this moment in time. The Patriots themselves have released a statement after the incident came to light, saying that they are very concerned about this incident.
“We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins," the statement read. "We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will not have further comment at this time.” Hutchins had just recently signed his rookie deal with New England.
Patriots rookie Quintayvious Hutchins charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and battery
The Patriots had been eyeing Hutchins for some time. Not only did head coach Mike Vrabel meet with him at Boston College's pro day in the lead-up to the NFL Draft, but he also participated in the Patriots' local pro day in April. Hutchins was selected No. 247 overall in the Draft just a few weeks ago.
Hutchins recorded 66 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and an interception as a pass rusher/linebacker hybrid for Boston College over the last two seasons. New England took him in the seventh round with the hope of turning him into a quality backup pass rusher and special teams performer.
Hutchins is represented by Michael DiStefano, who is from the same legal practice that represented former Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs and defensive tackle Christian Barmore in legal affairs over the last 12 months.
This incident with Hutchins comes just a few days after Diggs was found not guilty in Norfolk County District Court after being charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges. This is a developing story, and more updates will be made available.
