There was a lot of chatter regarding the Patrios' head coach vacancy going into the 2025 offseason, with many labeling the team an undesirable place for anyone to be hired due to the state of the roster and their recent history of losing more games than winning them. That might be why there weren't many interviews or candidates knocking on Robert Kraft's door, but it all inevitably led to who the owner was presumed to want for the role the whole time: Mike Vrabel.

The former Titans' coach took on the task at hand with open arms by immediately whipping out the checkbook to sign the caliber of talent needed in free agency and eventually selecting the right players in this year's draft.

Despite all the improvements that have been made, the Patriots are still leading the league with an estimated $60 million in cap space, leaving them with a chance to pull off a blockbuster trade before the season begins or even by the deadline.

That has some analysts predicting a move will be made, specifically for an offensive powerhouse, with the latest suggestion coming from respected Patriots writer Karen Guregian.

The Patriots still have the opportunity to pull off a headline-making trade this season

With a few disgruntled players seeking new contracts from their current teams, either not participating in training camp or holding out, the Patriots are reportedly eyeing those who could be significant assets to their roster.

The primary focus remains on Bengals' pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, but an emphasis is also placed on two-time Pro Bowl receiver Terry McLaurin in Washington. That's who Guregian believes the Patriots would most likely pursue if he were to become available, as she boldly predicts the team will make one more big move this season.

Fortunately, they have the cap space to take on McLaurin's current contract and offer a hefty extension, like the one he is reportedly seeking. He would be an immediate game-changer for the offense, becoming the long-term piece they have been looking for in the receiving corps.

He would join Stefon Diggs and Kyle Williams as the projected go-to options for Maye, finally bringing back the intimidating offense that the Patriots were known for throughout Tom Brady's tenure, which aligns with what Vrabel and Co. want to accomplish moving forward.

Acquiring McLaurin wouldn't be cheap, and it could involve multiple picks, potentially including a player or two. However, the outcome could be deemed worthwhile considering his talent and the immediate impact he would have on the offense. So if Vrabel can pull it off, the sky might be the limit for the 2025 Patriots, which is not something anyone could have predicted just a few months ago.
