The trade deadline rumors continue to swirl throughout the NFL and will continue to do so until Tuesday's deadline. It's unlikely the New England Patriots will make any big moves, although they have a couple of positions that may be worth upgrading.
Running back could very well be one of them. Antonio Gibson is already out for the season with a knee injury, and Rhamondre Stevenson is now dealing with a toe issue. Mike Vrabel and company can ill afford any more injuries in that room, especially given how inconsistent the run game has been throughout the first half of the season.
That leaves the question: will the Patriots swing a deal for a player that Josh McDaniels once coached in Las Vegas? New England's roster features a host of former Raiders, including Robert Spillane and K'Lavon Chaisson, and running back Zamir White could be next amongst that list.
Zamir White is worth the Patriots looking into ahead of the trade deadline
While New England could certainly use another back, don't look for the Patriots to make a splashy move like trying to mortgage draft picks for Derrick Henry or Breece Hall. The Ravens have a chance to get back in the AFC mix with Lamar Jackson healthy, and there's no way the Jets - as bad as they are - will trade Hall within the division.
White has been buried in the depth chart in Las Vegas, with Ashton Jeanty and Raheem Mostert the Raiders' top two backs. He only has 10 carries for 25 yards this season.
But White could be a solid third-down option or a receiving back option for the Patriots. Stevenson and Henderson are clearly the team's top two backs, but the big wrinkle here is McDaniels. White was coached by McDaniels in Las Vegas and has averaged 6.1 yards per reception during his career.
It probably won't cost the Patriots a heck of a lot to swing for a player like White - probably a day three draft pick or two at the worst - but White has no future in Las Vegas and is a player who could be in need of a fresh start on a contending team.
The McDaniels factor certainly doesn't hurt.
