Because the Patriots are projected to be potential buyers ahead of the trade deadline in a couple of weeks, there's a good chance they will be looking to improve some of their weaker positions before it's too late. They still have an estimated $54 million in cap space, most of which they'll want to rollover to next year, but there are a few players who might be on their radar.
Among the most obvious would be improving their backfield, especially since Antonio Gibson went down with a season-ending ACL injury against the Bills last week. They could look within the division to upgrade their running back room, and the Jets might have the answer in Breece Hall.
The second-round pick in the 2022 draft has been a key part of the Jets' offense over the last four years, but hasn't reached his full potential just yet. That could just be the kind of player he is, or the revolving door of head coaches, quarterbacks, and coordinators could be contributing factors.
Regardless, the Patriots could inquire about his availability before the deadline, and it already looks like things might work in their favor based on how Hall captioned a photo of himself arriving at the Jets' latest game.
There's a good chance the Patriots could boost their backfield by stealing a player from their divisional rival
The running back headlines this past weekend when he made a post on Instagram with a photo of himself arriving for their Week 6 game against the Broncos in London, captioning it "Free 20", seemingly implying that he wants to be let go from the team.

If this is Hall's way of expressing his unhappiness in New York, he could be viewed as a trade candidate, especially since the Jets continue to look like a dumpster fire under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn.
They could be on a selling spree in hopes of gaining multiple draft picks to help improve the roster next offseason, and the Patriots could send some their way if they find Hall to be an interesting option.
The 24-year-old has been a consistent option for the Jets' offense over the last few years, with his ability to make big plays on the ground and in the passing game. He's already recorded 88 carries for 410 yards this season on top of 17 catches for 150 yards, which could certainly help the Patriots' current situation.
He was especially impressive in 2023, as Hall totaled 223 carries for 994 yards and five touchdowns, along with 76 receptions for 591 yards and four receiving touchdowns. That's the kind of production that could certainly boost the Patriots' backfield right now and in the future, only if the price is right.
But they'll also have to consider if Hall has already reached his ceiling, which there is certainly an argument for, or if they believe they can elevate him even further with a change of scenery.
