The Patriots have failed to find their next top wide receiver despite reportedly being involved in talks for a few of the top names that have already been traded or signed elsewhere. That list has become too long for fans' liking, and their options are becoming increasingly limited as more free agency continues.

Cooper Kupp seemed like their best hope last week, but he chose to stay in the NFC West and signed a two-year contract with the Seahawks. That has then sparked rumors about the Patriots getting into the trade market again, highlighting the possibility of a Brandon Aiyuk trade since the 49ers appear to be cleaning house.

But until that can be deemed a potential reality, as he hasn't been made available just yet, New England is still looking at some of the top free agents that remain available at this time, so much so that the latest reporting from The Athletic claims they took a visit with Stefon Diggs on Wednesday.

It's a big move for Mike Vrabel and Co., given the scrutiny they have received over the past week for seemingly ignoring the roster around Drake Maye. Although Diggs has a controversial past, he would be a significant upgrade to their receiving corps and immediately make the offense one to watch out for.

The Patriots taking a risk with Stefon Diggs should reap big rewards

The addition of receiver Mack Hollins was a decent start to adding value to the offense for the 2025 season, but it wasn't enough to dramatically move the needle to help Maye be successful in his second season. That's why names like Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen have remained in the conversation about potential signings, but no updates about their interest in New England and vice versa have been reported.

Instead, they set up a meeting with Diggs, one of the best receivers of the last ten years who torched the Patriots' defense twice a season during his tenure with the Bills. He could now join their team instead and wreak havoc on his former team.

The 4-time Pro Bowler has consistently impressed throughout his career, recording six straight seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards between his time with the Vikings and Bills. He was expected to be a massive part of the Texans offense last season but suffered an ACL injury after just eight games.

Diggs is just four months removed from the surgery to repair his knee and is reportedly recovering rapidly, making him a little less risky than others dealing with the same injury.

At this time, though, it's just a meeting between the two sides, and according to Chad Graff of The Athletic, nothing is imminent. If all goes well, there's a good chance we could hear that Diggs will be a New England Patriot this week, especially since interest in signing him has not been as high as expected.
