As the NFL offseason heats up, the New England Patriots could decide to pull off a blockbuster trade for star wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown is a player that New England Patriots fans have spent a lot of time thinking about this offseason. The veteran wideout is still under contract with Philly, but after a tumultuous year this past season, he could be on the move. Patriots fans are hoping that’s the case, and that New England is his landing spot.

If the Eagles are open to trading away Brown, the question is how much it will cost an interested team like the Patriots. New England got an answer to that question in a recent report by NFL insider Albert Breer.

The insider explained that a potential trade could be somewhere between the package the Green Bay Packers received for Davante Adams in 2022 (a first-round pick and another top 100 selection) and the package the Buffalo Bills received for Stefon Diggs in 2024 (a second-round pick and a Day 3 swap).

NFL insider details the likely cost of an A.J. Brown trade

Breer explained that Philadelphia's current asking price is similar to the Adams trade — a first-round pick and an additional top-100 selection. However, that’s a price that not many teams are willing to pay. Unless a potential suitor emerges and is ready to commit that much to land Brown, Breer says the league values a trade more at a second-round pick and a day-three swap.

That outlines the range that New England will have to operate in if it wants to add the veteran wideout, and it’s safe to say the Patriots will be much more willing to engage if the second option is on the table. Asking New England for a first and a day-two pick would likely result in the team giving up on the idea of Brown.

If the Patriots can acquire the three-time Pro Bowler, he would provide a significant boost for New England’s offense. Brown is a receiver who posted back-to-back 1400-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023, and someone who surpassed 1000 receiving yards in every year but his third season in the league.

Even in 2025, with Brown and the Eagles going through some public drama, the wideout still recorded 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.

Only turning 29 years old in June, Brown should be able to contribute quality play for the remaining four years on his contract. New England should absolutely explore a deal with the Eagles.
