Amid the ongoing rumors linking the Patriots to an AJ Brown trade, there has been a revelation that the Rams were also in contact with the Eagles about the wide receiver's availability. It didn't make much sense, given their offense already has two superstar wideouts in Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, both of whom helped Matthew Stafford secure the MVP for the 2025 season.
But NFL insiders insisted it was the truth and could become a problem for the Patriots on their path to acquiring Brown for their offense.
Because things didn't really add up for the Rams to be involved in the conversation, it appears insiders dug deeper and have now suggested they might be willing to move on from Adams after just one season, and perhaps that's why they were looking into Brown.
If that's the case, Adams is on the table for a trade, and Mark Powell of FanSided.com proposes a deal for the Patriots to get the three-time All-Pro on the roster this offseason, which might make a lot of sense.
Davante Adams could be exactly what the Patriots' offense needs in 2026
Assuming Adams could be on the move before the 2026 season begins, Powell suggests a very affordable trade for the Patriots to offer the Rams for their superstar receiver.
Not only would they get in a proven productive player who logged five 1,000+ receiving yard seasons in a row, but they would also save on their highest draft capital in the process, something they won't be afforded if they trade for Brown or other top-name receivers.
This is certainly something they could consider, given the price tag and the immediate upgrade Adams would bring to the offense. The only point of concern would be his age, as he is 33 years old, and his production has decreased from 2024 to 2025.
Despite that, he still logged 60 receptions for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, easily becoming Stafford's go-to threat in the red zone.
He could take that role over with the Patriots on day one and elevate Maye to a new level, even better than what we saw with Stefon Diggs last season. But it will depend on how Mike Vrabel and Co. view his age as a problem, since they have made it clear they want to build a young roster. Adams doesn't exactly fit that.
At this point in time, it's already looking like they'll need to pull off a trade for the kind of receiver they need, so Adams could be added to the list of potential targets. Whether he ultimately is traded or not, inquiring shouldn't be off the table, especially since he could be the missing piece that Maye needs to build upon his 2025 performance.
