It has been a long time coming for the New England Patriots, who underwent significant changes this offseason that started from the dismissal of head coach Jerod Mayo after just one season and the introduction of Mike Vrabel as his replacement, to a massive roster overhaul that might be good enough to make the team competitive again.

That effort led to a must-watch summer of training camp and preseason, as excitement began to grow again among Patriots fans, accompanied by a lot of optimism for the first time since Tom Brady's departure five years ago.

The hope is that it will transfer into the regular season, and now that we know who will make up the 53-man roster, there is a clearer idea of what the year might bring.

The main priority should still be improvement. While making a playoff run would exceed expectations and be the cherry on top of what appears to be a successful offseason, it's not the most realistic scenario at this point in the Patriots' rebuild. Instead, seeing improvement and a well-coached team is most important to prepare them for success when the time comes.

For now, we can examine the current roster, which will undoubtedly undergo significant changes before their season opener against the Raiders. Mike Vrabel has already stated this, so the initial roster won't look the same in two weeks.

The Patriots are still hovering around $60 million in available cap space, and they now know they can't pull off a trade for either Trey Hendrickson or Terry McLaurin. But there might be some other big moves up their sleeve.

The final roster for New England is far from set in concrete: expect to see a lot movement over the next two weeks, and probably more moves to come throughout the season.
