The debate over who should be a season's MVP is a tradition like no other in the NFL, unless a player is by far and wide much better than anyone else in the league. That hasn't been the case during the 2025 season, though, as quarterbacks Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford have been neck and neck for much of the past month.

The thought was how they ended their 2025 campaigns would be the determining factor in who was the clear frontrunner, and based on that logic, it should be an award inarguably going to Maye. But his final two games of the season were apparently not enough to convince everyone, including Tom Brady, that he should be the favorite, as odds have Stafford winning in his 17th season.

It continues to be a debate just days before the votes are cast, and Patriots fans are disappointed in having to defend their young quarterback against the illegitimate talking points that have never been used to justify why someone isn't an MVP.

But hearing Brady of all people choose Stafford might be the worst thing of the whole discussion.

Tom Brady disappoints Patriots fans everywhere with his pick for MVP

While speaking to his FOX Sports colleagues after the afternoon slate of games on Sunday, Brady was asked by former teammate Rob Gronkowski who he believes should win Most Valuable Player.

Although he credited both players for their performances, he shockingly chose Stafford, and that immediately sent Patriots fans into a spiral.

Perhaps he genuinely believes Stafford is the most deserving, or maybe he's trying to be politically correct or even appear unbiased by not choosing Maye. Regardless of his reasoning, Patriots fans were certainly not thrilled with his response.

It seems like Brady has the same mindset that many of the loudest NFL analysts have been regurgitating over the past few weeks, which, unfortunately, disregards what Maye has accomplished with far less than what Stafford has to work with.

There's reason to believe that the NFL decided long ago that Stafford was going to be this season's MVP, and they plan to stick to that, especially since he is 37 years old and has never been up for the coveted award, and likely never will be again.

And that makes it all the more important to remember that what Maye accomplished this season, in just his second year, would all be career-highs for Stafford, but it won't matter because the voters have likely already decided Maye shouldn't win.

It will be interesting to see what ultimately happens when the awards are announced right before the Super Bowl. But it's fair to assume Patriots fans are already preparing for Maye not to be recognized for his success this year, and the NFL to look like hypocrites once again.
