It's that time of year when the New England Patriots announce the latest inductee into their Hall of Fame. This year's candidates were some of the greatest of the dynasty era, which included wide receiver Julian Edelman, offensive guard Logan Mankins, and kicker Adam Vinatieri.

Many believed it was finally time for Vinatieri to be the player to earn his red jacket, especially after the news regarding his repaired relationship with Robert Kraft and the organization. It had been a bit strained since he left New England and joined the Colts, a move fans wish never happened, but the drama behind the scenes inevitably led to his departure. Fortunately, that appears to be in the past.

Because of that, it felt like the perfect time for him to be enshrined in the Patriots Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to the team's first three Super Bowl wins, officially kicking off the start of the two-decade dynasty.

But his popularity couldn't top that of Edelman, who was by far a fan favorite during his 11-year career, which made it easy for fans to vote him in over Mankins and Vinatieri to be this year's inductee.

As much as Patriots Nation has celebrated the move, it also brought out some debate regarding the timing of Edelman's induction and if he was the right call for this year.

When discussing the second half of the Patriots dynasty, you can't gloss over Edelman's importance on the team's success. When he was drafted as a quarterback in 2009 and inevitably moved to wide receiver, there wasn't a lot of optimism about how impactful he would actually be for the offense.

However, once he was given a proper chance and fully immersed in the game plan, he almost immediately became Tom Brady's favorite and most trusted target, providing fans with some of the most heart-stopping moments in the biggest games of them all.

There's certainly no argument to be made that Edelman doesn't deserve a spot in the Patriots Hall of Fame. But many fans are split on the timing, especially when Vinatieri was up for this year's coveted spot.

Because the kicker is a significant component of how the Patriots won their first three Super Bowls, and he has been long overdue for recognition for his contributions, especially now that things appear smoothed over between him and the Krafts, this felt like the right year to enshrine him.

Considering how long he has been eligible to be the nominee over Edelman being a first ballot, there's an argument that perhaps the kicker was the right choice. On the other hand, it's hard to argue that Edelman shouldn't be a first-ballot Patriots Hall of Famer, given how much he did for the team in the playoffs and the Super Bowl throughout his career.

No matter what, both deserved to be honored by the franchise, and hopefully, Vinatieri will have his day. But for now, it's time to celebrate the career of Edelman, who fittingly goes into the Patriots' Hall one year after Tom Brady.
