Now that the Patriots are back on track to being a competitive team again, it's more important than ever to pay attention to what their immediate rivals are doing during the offseason. That includes who they draft, and based on this past weekend, the Dolphins and Jets seem to have hit the jackpot with several of their selections.
While it's almost unfathomable to believe the Jets could be a problem for any team in the AFC East this upcoming season, they managed to impress with several of their picks, including their fourth-rounder quarterback Cade Klubnik.
It was clear they would look to add another signal caller after moving on from Justin Fields and only trading for Geno Smith, who is not projected to be a long-term option.
And fortunately for them, Klubnik is beyond excited to be a Jet, providing some comic relief for Patriots fans who know that happiness is misplaced.
Jets' new quarterback might soon regret wishing New York would draft him
While speaking to reporters after he was drafted, Klubnik revealed he had woken up on Saturday morning "hoping the Jets were going to pick" him, and that immediately took NFL fans, especially Patriots fans, by surprise.
It's not that a rookie shouldn't be excited about having his dream come true, nor should they necessarily be upset if they are drafted to a historically bad franchise.
However, quarterbacks haven't exactly thrived with the Jets in recent years, and arguably for decades, so it doesn't feel unfair to question why any prospect would legitimately want to be drafted to that kind of team.
Maybe it will be different for Klubnik than it has been for others in the past, since it looks like, at least on paper, the Jets strung together an impressive draft class. That could set him up for success whenever he is given the chance to be under center, and that is reasonable to be excited about.
But if the Jets are going to continue to Jet, then it won't take long for the rookie to wish he had never had that dream.
