The Patriots' 2025 offseason has gone much better than any analyst or fan ever predicted, with the entire roster being improved from top to bottom. There was, of course, an emphasis on the offense to ensure Drake Maye was put into a better position this upcoming season than he was as a rookie, which made signing a new backup just as important.
Although Jacoby Brissett was a solid mentor for the young quarterback last season, he was initially signed to be the starter, creating chaos for the first half of the season until Jerod Mayo decided it was time for him to be benched. Brissett hoped to continue as a starter in the league, which led to him leaving in free agency and the Patriots signing Joshua Dobbs.
The well-traveled backup is expected to remain in that role and help Maye continue to develop, but there is a chance the Patriots might want to sign another capable player to ensure they have a suitable quarterback room in case of disaster.
That's led Pro Football and Sports Network analysts to suggest Mike Vrabel sign a player he's familiar with from his days as the Titans quarterback, making for an interesting potential roster for the 2025 season.
The Patriots are deemed a good fit for QB Will Levis to start his backup career in the NFL
With cut and trade candidates becoming a hot topic heading into the summer, there is much speculation about where the likeliest players will go when their fate inevitably arrives.
That prompted PFN to suggest that the current Titans quarterback, Will Levis, be a candidate for the Patriots to sign, adding more depth to the quarterback room with a player Vrabel knows very well.
"A fresh start would be helpful for both sides. Mike Vrabel was the Titans' coach when the franchise drafted Levis, and the New England Patriots’ current backup behind Drake Maye is journeyman Joshua Dobbs.
Besides being a fresh start for the 25-year-old, the familiarity with the head coach and the one who was partly responsible for drafting him to Tennessee makes the signing make some sense. However, beyond that, it's hard to argue why Levis would agree to be a third stringer after being the starter or QB2 for the Titans over the last two years.
On top of that, he hasn't proven to be a reliable player, and that seems to be what Vrabel has tried to emphasize with the players the Patriots have signed. Levis is also not exactly at a stage in his career to be a mentor to a second-year quarterback, so that doesn't seem to improve the reasoning behind New England adding him to the roster, either.

If the hope is to add another quarterback simply for depth, then maybe Vrabel entertains bringing in a player he knows well. Other than that, however, it would seem unlikely that Levis would want to go to the Patriots and would more so go to a team that allows him to compete for a starting or backup role.
Dobbs is more than capable of being who the Patriots need him to be, and with more roster cuts on the horizon, there might be some better options for them to consider than Levis.
