The New England Patriots' 2025 third-round pick was one of the most well-received of the entire draft. With the 69th pick, the Patriots selected Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams to add to their receiving corps led by Stefon Diggs, Kayshon Boutte, and Mack Hollins.

Williams was a very productive player in college. He finished his career with over 3,600 yards over five seasons, three at UNLV and two with the Cougars. During his two seasons at State, he broke out, totaling 2,040 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns; he averaged over 17 yards per catch during his final year.

While his hands were questioned through the draft process, his speed was not. He ran a 4.4 40-yard. dash, tied for 11th among all receivers in his class. His 10-yard split was just .06 seconds off the top-placed Matthew Golden, and his Senior Bowl week was also excellent.

Across the board, it was no surprise that Williams was a highly-touted prospect and a top 100 pick.

Kyle Williams might’ve just jump-started his New England Patriots career

While Williams had great success in college, he struggled in the first few weeks of his NFL career.

He had two catches for 20 yards through the first three weeks, then went six weeks without a catch. His third catch of the year came against Tampa Bay this past weekend, a crossing route that resulted in a 72-yard catch and run for a touchdown.

The Patriots had struggled to move the ball early in the game, but the long touchdown jump-started the offense at the end of the first quarter. They'd go on to score three more touchdowns in the game.

The first touchdown is always a big one, but one won't be enough for the rookie. When asked by reporters if his mom would get the honor of receving his first touchdown ball, Williams hilariously shot the idea down quickly.

"Nah! I worked for this. … Hopefully if I get another one I can give it to my mom."

With Boutte still nursing a hamstring injury that limited him in Tuesday's practice and kept him out of. the Bucs game, Williams could have more opportunities in the Patriots' Thursday matchup against the New York Jets.

Regardless of his rookie year production, expect Williams to be a deep threat for years to come. He should have plenty more footballs to give to his mom over what Patriots fans hope will be a successful NFL career.
