The NFL trade deadline for the 2025 season has now come and gone, and Patriots fans are trying to come to terms with the fact that the team didn't make any moves, despite countless reports suggesting they would. They had long been said to be actively calling teams around the league about the availability of specific players, only to sign free agent Brenden Rice to the practice squad instead.
Now that everything is said and done, insiders are revealing just how involved the new regime was with trying to get a trade done before the 4 p.m. deadline. There were rumors about Eliot Wolf and Co. reaching out about running backs and pass rushers, yet nothing came to fruition.
Part of that could be the asking price for many of the players they were most interested in, or the lack of interest from those teams in trading with the Patriots. That is the current chatter regarding the Titans, and now insider Dianna Russini is saying the same about the Jets.
According to her, teams within the division reached out to New York about players like RB Breece Hall and WR Garrett Wilson, both of whom the Patriots could have been in on. But the Jets were unwilling to trade within the division, which is why they made blockbuster trades with the Colts and the Cowboys.
AFC East teams reached out to the Jets about potential deals, but New York was reluctant to trade with division rivals, sources say.

The Patriots were never going to be successful in trade talks with the Jets
Because the Patriots were reportedly looking into adding another running back to their roster since Antonio Gibson suffered a season-ending injury, and now Rhamondre Stevenson is dealing with a toe injury, it would make sense for them to call the Jets about Hall.
But after seeing the fire sale they had with some of their best players, including CB Sauce Gardner and DT Quinnen Williams, it's unsurprising they weren't willing to move their running back.
The same can likely be said about Garrett Wilson, their top wide receiver, and based on how QB Justin Fields has been struggling recently, it wouldn't have been wise to get rid of two of his best offensive weapons, even if they are hoping to rebuild the roster for the umpteenth time.
Fortunately, because they shipped off two of their best players, their upcoming two matchups against the Jets should be even easier than they typically are. It should be another easy two wins to add to their season, a clean sweep like they have done for several years at this point.
Regarding their roster, however, they should be just fine, too, even if fans wished they had made a move or two. They are obviously good enough to have a 7-2 record, so they are built to win. The hope is that it will continue, and we won't look back on their lack of trades as a down part of the season.
