Now that the Patriots have finally completed the trade for wide receiver A.J. Brown, much of the conversation about their receiving corps for the 2026 season has shifted to who is currently on the roster, with not much being said about adding anyone else. In fact, it's been more about who will likely be cut.

But before that became the general observation, there was a longing from fans to see Stefon Diggs return, since he was cut ahead of free agency a few months ago. He was supposed to be on the team over the next two years, but now he's a free agent and remains unsigned.

That has prompted plenty of rumors about where he might land next, with the Patriots remaining at the top of the list, and plenty of signs seemingly making it appear more than likely.

While that remains a sentiment among some fans and even New England analysts, there were still concerns about potential NFL discipline stemming from the court proceedings he faced earlier this spring. Despite his not being found guilty, the league could still seek punishment, which might have deterred the Patriots even more from bringing him back.

The latest update, however, shows it won't be a problem anymore, so they can still re-sign him if they feel he is fit, without concern about what the NFL might do ahead of the upcoming season.

Stefon Diggs will now be considered a worry-free signing for the Patriots or any other team in the NFL

It was breaking news from multiple insiders on Friday afternoon, with Ian Rapoport among the reporters who revealed that the league didn't find sufficient evidence to support that he violated the personal conduct policy.

That means Diggs won't face a suspension or fine stemming from the allegations made against him in court, and now teams can sign him without worrying about what his immediate future might look like.

That goes for everyone outside New England, too, as rumors have circulated about potential interest from teams like the Chiefs and Commanders, both of whom would be solid places for Diggs to continue his career.

But if the looming suspension was on Eliot Wolf's mind, it doesn't need to be any longer, although up to this point, it didn't seem as though that was what led to his release or their lack of urgency to get him back on the roster.

Whether this changes their minds remains to be seen, and if we believe what Mike Vrabel has said in recent weeks, Diggs isn't on their radar as a potential signing. However, that hasn't been the consistent feeling all offseason, so things could certainly change, and if they want to boost their offense to a new level, they'd consider bringing Diggs back as soon as possible.
