Things in the NFL move fast, so it was unsurprising to hear insiders announce the league had agreed to the location for the Super Bowl in 2028. The game will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, making it the first championship game there since the Patriots won their sixth Lombardi trophy against the Rams in 2019.

While that certainly brought up some good memories for Patriots fans, even if it was bittersweet since it was just one year before Tom Brady left, the announcement was utterly botched by insiders reporting the news.

Multiple reporters sent out tweets confirming the news, but they used the incorrect Roman numeral associated with the future championship game within their posts. Instead of using LXII to represent 62, they used XLII, which means 42.

Patriots fans, in particular, noticed the mistake right away, bringing up painful memories of that heartbreaking Super Bowl loss from the 2007 season.

Jokes ensued about a replay of the Patriots' undefeated season's Super Bowl, but reliving the past is not what any fan wants to remember. Perhaps an actual redo of what happened that day would be better, as long as the Patriots came out the victor, of course.

It's remarkable how many shared the incorrect number, and some of the tweets are still up and unedited despite the countless corrections made in the replies.

Regardless, the one good thing about the mishap is Patriots fans won't be subjected to having to watch Super Bowl XLII again nor relive it. As great as it would be to make another run at a championship, it's fair to assume that not a single fan would ever choose to relive that day again and would gladly erase that from their memory if possible.

But maybe by 2028, New England will be in the conversation as a representative of the AFC again.
