Depending on who you ask, it's unsurprising that Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is flourishing in his second season and has the kind of jump that teams can only dream of in who they hope to be their next franchise player. It has put him on an MVP trajectory after just six weeks, leading many to consider him among the best at the position so far this year.

But not everyone is willing to make such a statement, at least not yet. That's the case with notable fantasy expert Matthew Berry, who took issue with Patriots' legend Devin McCourty's proud statement about just how good Maye already is.

Rather than labeling him a top-10 quarterback, the former safety declared Maye is the best from the 2024 draft class, which Berry immediately shut down in favor of Commanders' Jayden Daniels.

Of course, this is the kind of debate that is all subjective, but stats don't lie; the Maye is leading in a lot of categories. While that doesn't tell the whole story, it certainly tells you enough.

Drake Maye is ascending to a level that non-Patriots fans are not willing to accept just yet

Although there were some initial concerns about the Patriots moving on from last year's coaching staff because of the impact it could have on Maye, seeing that Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels were the leading names to replace the old coaching staff was welcomed, especially given how beneficial they would inevitably be for the young quarterback.

We've already seen just how good they have been in his career so far, as the Patriots go into their Week 7 matchup against the Titans with a 4-2 record, now good enough to sit atop the AFC East after the Bills' loss on Monday Night Football.

Maye is looking better than anyone could have expected with just one full season of starts under his belt, and his stats through 18 games compared to other second-year quarterbacks prove that.

Many factors have certainly helped Maye achieve this, and detractors might point to his easy schedule to claim he isn't at the top of his draft class at this point.

But just because his performance is mostly going under the radar doesn't mean it isn't impressive or that he isn't as good as someone like Daniels, simply because he didn't take his team to the divisional championships last year.

As we know, Maye wasn't given the start until Week 6; every other quarterback from his class was the starter from the season opener. That puts Maye behind them in most regards because they have played more games, but he's clearly bypassing them with his performance on the field anyway, which has the Patriots in good positioning for the rest of the season.
