Over the first three games of the season, Drake Maye drew a lot of hot takes because of his frustrating performances and what seemed like a massive regression. The quarterback was coming off a season that ended with a Super Bowl appearance, following an MVP-caliber regular season, so expectations were high for Year 3.

Seeing how poorly he played in the first month led many to jump off the bandwagon and conclude that this is who Maye is, and always will be, with even Patriots fans questioning whether he is the team's legitimate quarterback of the future.

He turned things around with an impressive road win over the Bills, and since then, he has been on a heater. Although he's still made some mistakes we all wish we could take back, the Patriots enter Week 8 with a 4-3 record, which could easily have been the opposite without his resurgence.

With his teammates rallying behind him and coaches continuing to show their support and belief in his abilities, Maye couldn't have bounced back at a better time.

And while his efforts might go unnoticed against the Bears, Mike Vrabel made sure to tell him how much he appreciated him immediately after the game, which counts for a lot after the struggles he went through in Weeks 1 through 3.

He couldn't have been clearer about his feelings than in the last sentence of this statement. It'll be hard for Patriots fans to disagree with anything Vrabel said.

"I'm glad he's ours."

Us too, Coach. Us, too!

In fact, Maye was the main reason the game was so close, since the defense struggled with missed tackles and left receivers wide open. That led to Luther Burden III catching 4 for 130 yards and a touchdown, and Colston Loveland catching 7 for 69 yards and a touchdown

Maye's consistency in pushing the ball downfield, with his impressive deep-ball accuracy, kept the game from getting out of hand, a massive contrast to how his season started. Those traits will keep his future bright early in his career, while giving the Patriots more chances to win some tough games ahead.

At just 24, he's going toe to toe with some of the best and proving he'll be a legitimate threat for years to come. And with the support he's getting from Vrabel and his teammates, that will only fuel his rise.

Now we just need to see him maintain the kind of performances we've been seeing over the past four weeks, and then we won't have to worry about what his future might, or might not, look like anymore.
