Now that OTAs are underway, the new regime in New England will finally have a good look at how the updated roster might look for the 2025 season. Although the practices are not mandatory, attendance has reportedly been stellar, proving the Mike Vrabel effect works wonders to boost morale.
That's important for a team like the Patriots that hopes to get back on track and rebound successfully after another down season last year. Because of that, they might be looking to add even more players to their roster to test out as many talents as possible ahead of the 2025 season, which might include another name from Vrabel's past.
Although the secondary appears to be in good hands with Carlton Davis and Christian Gonzalez leading the charge at cornerback, and Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers as the starting safeties, there could be room to add former first-rounder Caleb Farley into the mix.
The Patriots could add more depth to the cornerback room by adding former Titans first-rounder Caleb Farley
Given how many players have been signed to the Patriots this offseason with connections to one of the new coaches, it wouldn't be surprising if Vrabel wants to give Farley another chance to succeed in the NFL after his stint with the Panthers, according to Chowder & Champions writer Efstathios Savvidis.
Although the 26-year-old has been riddled with injuries throughout his college and NFL career, Savvidis believes the Patriots could be the right place to get his career back on track, especially given who currently makes up their talented cornerback room.
Farley is reportedly healthy for the first time since joining the NFL in 2021. He could be a solid backup with considerable potential while providing veteran experience to an otherwise young backup core. His connection to Vrabel, who was leading the Titans' staff when he was drafted, could be his easy way into Foxboro, too.
It's certainly not a position of need, and Farley has a lot to prove, but there's a reason he was considered a first-round talent, and the start of his career hasn't been too kind. He might not live up to his draft status because of those injuries, but the Patriots don't need an obvious CB1 on the roster with Davis and Gonzalez already there.
Farley could provide the stability at the position beyond them, since those who will serve as depth pieces like Alex Austin, Miles Battle, and Isaiah Bolden are mostly unproven. It's never a bad idea to add more experience to your roster, and we saw how much help the cornerbacks needed in 2024 beyond Gonzalez, so it might be wise to seriously consider signing Farley.
