The New England Patriots claimed Tommy DeVito off waivers last summer, and he's entering the 2026 season as Drake Maye's backup. Before DeVito came to New England, he was with the New York Giants, where he earned the nickname "Tommy Cutlets" and even had his own celebration to go along with it.
Well, now that he's not a Giant anymore, the Tommy Cutlets nickname doesn't necessarily have to stick around if the Pats don't want it to. Clearly, head coach Mike Vrabel doesn't want it to, as he gave his backup quarterback a new, less cool nickname.
“Two Chains’ is doing a nice job,” Vrabel said. “He, I think, continues to learn, and with it being a new system, I think it got his attention a little bit better, as opposed to saying, ‘Hey, I know what this is,’ and kind of taking it for granted. I think he’s really done a nice job.”
So, yeah, "Two Chains" is the new nickname for DeVito, and Giants fans aren't taking the name change well at all.

Matt Sidney of GMEN HQ, FanSided's Giants site, couldn't help but blast Vrabel and the Patriots for stripping DeVito of his once legendary nickname.
"Up in Foxborough, MA, they’re trying to convince everyone that trading a Hall-of-Fame nickname to steal a rapper's stage name from a decade ago is a good move," Sidney wrote. "Not only is it uninspired, but it’s also an absolute dud of a nickname. It’s lazy and already taken by a famous rapper. Move over, 2 Chainz."
Oh, the things we talk about as we wait for the games that matter to start, huh? Either way, Sidney has a point. There is already a rapper named 2 Chainz, so calling DeVito Two Chains is pretty lame and uninspired, for sure.
There was no reason he couldn't have remained Tommy Cutlets even though he's not in the Big Apple anymore.
Hopefully, this doesn't end up mattering, and we never even see DeVito on the field unless the Patriots are blowing out the opposition. Giants fans probably aren't going to let it go anytime soon, though.
