Over the last few weeks, the 49ers have been dealing with multiple injuries on their offense, with the most notable being quarterback Brock Purdy. That led them to have Mac Jones fill in as the starter, and for the most part, he's been performing far better than anyone has seen from him in years, leading the 49ers to a couple of wins.

Every now and then, however, the player the Patriots chose to move on from rears his ugly head, further proving why they made the right decision and were fortunate to get the chance to draft Drake Maye last year.

That's not exactly what San Francisco wants to deal with, even if they still believe that Jones is the right guy to fill in for Purdy until he is able to return. And unfortunately for them, they're dealing with that Mac Jones again against the Bucs in Week 6, as the quarterback threw an early interception, putting the Bucs in the red zone.

Things only got worse when it took Baker Mayfield and the Bucs' offense two plays to score a touchdown to give them the early lead.

The 49ers better hope Mac Jones isn't reverting to his old self already

Leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, there were a lot of rumors about what quarterbacks were going to be first off the board, beyond the unanimous belief that Trevor Lawrence would be the next Jacksonville Jaguar.

The 49ers traded up to get a quarterback they wanted, rather than waiting to see who fell into their lap, and a lot of chatter suggested they were all-in on Jones, only to eventually select Trey Lance instead. That meant the Alabama alum fell to No. 15 for the Patriots to pick, and last longer in New England than Lance did in San Fran.

Once the Jaguars decided they didn't want to bring Jones back after trading for him the year before, the 49ers decided to see if they could get the guy they believed in all along, and at first, it looked like he would be the right guy to fill in for Purdy.

While that could still be true, these kinds of mistakes are what made his previous teams look the other way from keeping him around and could surely lead to the same result with the 49ers if he doesn't clean his game up, especially if Purdy remains sidelined for some time.

We saw glimpses of great play from him over the last two weeks, but it always seems to unsustainable for Jones to keep that momentum going.
